Wow. What a wild and exciting ride it was, and the last day was a fitting conclusion where everything seemed to fall into place to create just the right ending.

I began Saturday, July 3, 2010 way too early with my normal routine of helping my grandmother get ready for dialysis, checking email and, of course, voting for myself and using social sites like Twitter and Facebook to encourage others to do the same. I was also getting ready for my Voting Party that was to take place later. Yes, another full day.

The Voting Party was at the Pearl Public Library again---the same place I had the first one on Sat. June 19th---and it was a total success. It began by walking into the library to set things up in the computer lab and the librarian telling me she had voted for me and had told others how to do the same. Once the computers were all up and running, nothing was left for me to do but wait on others to join me.

With any public event, you never know what really to expect, but I knew that regardless how many people came, as long as I was there and voting, that was all that mattered.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TDDyZI6frqI/AAAAAAAAHXE/_u2LNJ8O9nk/s320/2+voting+party+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490154459468115618" />
Well, I wasn't alone for long. Patrons of the library caame in and cast their votes: some for 15 min., others for 30 min. and others for longer.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TDDy1L1rfdI/AAAAAAAAHXk/WR4I21a-vg4/s320/2+voting+party+8.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490154941289561554" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TDDyvtHAb-I/AAAAAAAAHXc/9sh222dt_S8/s320/2+voting+party+10.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490154847141392354" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TDDyode03PI/AAAAAAAAHXU/1ZoYgAp8nok/s320/2+voting+party+7.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490154722687245554" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TDDyhhUIDYI/AAAAAAAAHXM/2kFLISH0txg/s320/2+voting+party+6.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490154603457023362" />

Friends of mine from five cities---Pickens, Brandon, Byram, Jackson and Ridgeland--- showed up and cast their votes as well. (Special thanks goes out to Ashley Rae and Lo Watts of Playa Connected, Big Pap of D. I. G. M.E. Productions, Stanley Clark of For The People, Authors Rita B. Davis and Andre Johnson as well as Jacque Williamson for their continued support.) By the end of the event over 3k extra votes had been cast.

From there it was back home to make phone calls and send out emails and messages reminding people of the voting deadline. It was a long, long night with every little sleep, but by 2a.m. CST, I was happy and exhausted: ready for bed and the new day to come.

This morning was all about taking down signs and thanking the troops from Facebook and Twitter that were tireless in their support. I also began working on the rest of my life that was going on in the middle of the campaign to get on Oprah's network. I had a radio show to co-host at 9:30a.m. CST with author Mary Gilder. I had a schedule of events to plan. I had to go on with life.

It was with the realization of where I was today that made me reflect on the entire experience of competing for this spot on Oprah's new network. If any lesson is to be learned, it is that we have to be ready for whatever we might face in life and attack any situation like it is the biggest thing that could come our way.

I honestly don't know what will happen as far as the competition is concerned, but I can say that I am even more determined now to let my voice be heard. That's my obligation, and I am committed to taking it seriously.

(Sat. Now with just days to go before the contest ends, he is taking advantage of every day to get the word out for people to vote for him in this unique opportunity.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCns7d8s8yI/AAAAAAAAHV8/lOmiLUfuCdI/s320/cyrus+and+sign2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488178127323329314" />

Webb, 34, has made this an all-out campaign, creating yard signs, car magnets and flyers trying to get the word out about the competition and why he thinks he should win. He launched the website www.themaleoprah.com to keep people posted on his progress as well as to tout his accomplishments over the past 7 years on radio, tv, print and beyond. Webb started the "I Do It 5 Times A Day" campaign to encourage others to vote at least 5 times a day for him in the competition since there is no limit on the amount of times one person can vote.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCntbzrPWII/AAAAAAAAHWM/SSA6cXjQOuw/s320/vote+for+cyrus+here.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488178682911479938" />
Every day he is reminding his Facebook, Twitter and Myspace friends to vote each day, and on Saturday, July 3, 2010---the last day of the competition---he is hosting a "Voting Party" to give people a chance to meet him and cast their votes.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCntNjlBgJI/AAAAAAAAHWE/Al8M82YyKI0/s320/voting+party2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488178438072270994" />

The Voting Party will be held from 11-1:30p.m. at the Pearl Public Library (2416 Old Brandon Road * Pearl, MS) and is open to the public as well as the media. The lab has been reserved for the event, and you are able to come in, meet Webb and vote as many times as you would like. This is perfect for those who don't have computers as well as those who want to get to know Webb better and find out what he believes he brings to a national tv platform. Voting for the competition continues until 11:59p.m. EST on Sat. July 3, 2010.

Cyrus Webb has been working for over a decade to bring attention to issues that matter to people of all walks of life. Through his radio and tv show---each called Conversations---he has interviewed over 800 guests including nationally known individuals, up and coming stars as well as those who just have a story that needs to be told. His articles and interviews have appeared in the Clarion Ledger Newspaper, Jackson Advocate, The Rankin Ledger, Mississippi Link, Blagazine, Books2Mention Magazine, Crunk Magazine, Hype Magazine, S.T.I.L.L. Magazine and others. His co-ed book club called Conversations has garnered national attention for its diversity and ability to connect authors and readers. It has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, on MTV and other media outlets.

Currently Webb is in the top 100 of over 3200 entries in his category of Traditional Talk Show with 50,000 plus votes cast for him to date. His goal is to have over 100k votes by the end of the competition.

For more information, contact Cyrus Webb at cawebb4@juno.com or 601.896.5616. Over the past 10 years I have been part of some exciting accomplishments and successes as well as some disappointments, but in the end I always looked ahead to the next thing.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCe9MKDRljI/AAAAAAAAHVc/RYhGCFp7krg/s320/cyrus+and+sign.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487562687528408626" />
My path is one that many would see in itself as impossible by some standards. I am a young man with only a high school diploma from Mississippi, a state known for being at the top of all the wrong lists including highest rates of obesity, teen pregnancies, high blood pressure and illiteracy. What I lack in education, I think I more than make up for in passion and life experiences. It is this belief that I use as a driving force as I build my brand.

I have become a known entity on radio and tv as well as in print, not so much because of who I am, but because I am willing and excited to give others a voice. In other words, I think I am best known for my conversations with others rather than what I personally have accomplished---and I'm at peace with that.

Entering the tv competition for the Oprah Winfrey Network has allowed me to use the tools I started to hone years ago when working on political campaigns. I know what it takes to get your point of view out to the world, and there is nothing off the table when I feel I have a message that needs to be heard.

Since I officially joined the contest on May 19th, I have been using the internet and social networking tools to get the word out for others to vote for me. This has been to my benefit, because others have bought into the vision and helped me spread the word. I can't tell you how it feels to know that others are standing shoulder to shoulder with me all across the country online fighting along with me. Though the voting is taking place completely online, I knew that I also had to use offline means to reach those outside of my regular circle.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCe9s8o7QwI/AAAAAAAAHVk/D5WdqUIbJ7E/s320/vote+for+cyrus+here.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487563250863915778" />
This led me to making yard signs and posters for vehicles and high traffic areas. I wanted people to be curious enough to go on my website and see what "The Male Oprah" was all about. Then there was the slogan "I do it 5 times a day." Suggestive? Yes, but it got people to thinking and so it worked as well.

A real momentum developed, and it was something I could see in the numbers and feel, too.

Though it is a competition, I am all about helping others as well. That has always been a part of who I am. Because of this, I am using www.themaleoprah.com to promote my friends who are in the contest as well. Some might see this as counter-productive, but I see it as indicative of my path to success in general. We can't make it in life alone. No one can, regardless of who you are and what you have accomplished. I know that I need to surround myself with passionate individuals if I want to be challenged and grow. That is how I see those I am competing against. Regardless of who comes out on top, we can support each other along the way.

In the same vein of listing fellow competitors on my website, <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCe-E-rCsBI/AAAAAAAAHVs/TQz6j-X-dLo/s320/voting+party2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487563663726522386" />
I have partnered with them in events as well. On Sat. June 19th Gail Ambeau and I hosted a "Voting Party" together at the Pearl Public Library in Pearl, MS. The goal was to get people out to the library to vote for us and find out what we hope to bring to the Oprah network. It was a success, and the votes continue to grow.

Now we are just one week out, and already I am feeling victorious. No, I am not in the lead. In fact, at last check, I am #108 in my category of our 3120 and #235 out of 7956 totally competiting. The reason I am feeling like a winner already is because I did what so many fail to do when they have a vision or idea: I acted on it.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/TCe-VbKXGCI/AAAAAAAAHV0/KQnt_MyQZwg/s320/cyrus+and+sign2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5487563946251982882" />

Regardless of what the outcome, I can say I gave my best effort and will be ready for whatever is next. If we don't take anything else from the example of Oprah Winfrey's career, it would be wise to remember that she gives her best. The outcome is always unknown, but the execution is totally in our control.

That is the beauty of life.

(Sat. That is the final day of voting in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity being offered by media mogul Oprah Winfrey. The reward? Five individuals who have the most votes on that date will be finalists in her competition to find the next big tv star. Winfrey has partnered with the celebrated producer of Survivor and The Apprentice to create a competition for her new network,the Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN, and 34-year old Webb believes he has a shot.

"It's not so much about thinking I am better than anyone," says Webb, who has been active in the arts and education-related projects for over a decade. "I just believe that I have been blessed with the ability to help others find and share their voices as well as encourage others to do the same."

In 2003 Webb became the host of his own radio show Conversations with C. A. Webb (now called Conversations LIVE). Since 2003 he has interviewed over 800 guests including some of the biggest names in the arts, entertainment and world of literature and those on the rise, as well as brought attention to issues that matter to everyday individuals. In 2005 Webb followed the radio show with the launch of his local tv show Conversations with C. A. Webb on the ABC affilliate in Mississippi. In 2006 Webb launched what is now the largest co-ed book club in the country: Conversations Book Club. The book club covers all genres and has garnered national attention. Webb has also contributed articles and interviews to over a dozen online and print publications including Mississippi's own Clarion Ledger, Jackson Advocate and The Mississippi Link.

When Webb heard about the competition Oprah was hosting, he knew that it was something he had to do. The contest was announced on Friday, May 14, 2010 and by the 19th Webb had submitted his audition video and was asking for votes.

To help Webb in his endeavor to be one of the 5 finalists on Sat. July 3rd, he is rolling out a national campaign with individuals across the country to make sure the word gets out. He has also launched www.themaleoprah.com to allow people a place to learn about him, vote and also do something else: vote for others, too!

"We can't make it in this world alone," Webb explains. "Yes, it is a competition, but I want to help others as they pursue their dreams as well. This is an opportunity for all of us to bring attention to what matters most to us." Because of this, friends of Webb who have entered the competition are also linked on www.themaleoprah.com so visitors can vote for them.

Webb is using social networking sites to get the word out and will also be leading an offline campaign complete with t-shirts and posters to remind people to vote all the way to the deadline. "It's all about consistancy," he says. "It's not about how strong you start. It's the finish that matters."

INTRODUCING "Cyrus Webb Presents..."

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pdFG93jw1LI/S_lVqiH-9DI/AAAAAAAAHSg/0r7E5NXuR80/s320/bilde.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474501011248706610" />
Since 1999, artist/author/columnist, radio and television show host Cyrus A. Green, author of REFLECTIONS and WHEN DESTINIES MEET

"Your review (of ABRAMO'S GIFT) was unique in that you distilled a life lesson from the story, something that no reviewer has done. You focused upon some essence from the characters that, frankly, I had never thought about consciously, but I'm very gratified that you saw it. By the way, yours is the mark of a fine writer/reviewer. I wish that they were all as perceptive as you are. Where I come from, when someone does something as well as you, and when a young person shows the potential that you do, we say he's doing 'the Lord's work.' I have listened to our interview several times now, and have also shared it with some family and friends. And each time I hear it, I marvel at your mastery of interviewing technique. It is certainly something that is a talent, because I’ve seen many veterans of broadcasting not able to accomplish what you do so naturally and easily. Part of the success you have comes from your gentlemanly behavior that puts interviewees at ease. So thanks again for your kind treatment. I wish you all the best in whatever you do in your career, be it hosting of a book club, interviewing on national TV, writing books yourself, or some dream you hold in your secret heart." --- Don Greco, author of ABRAMO'S GIFT

"What a gentle and lovely, thoughtful host you are.
